A lesson of the peaches

- Song, Byung Woo (sobywo@hanmail.net) -

The episode happened six years ago. As my house was located in countryside, far away from my school, I had to board at a house near the school. There were several students like me.

There were many orchards - the apple orchard, the peach orchard, and so on. Whenever I went to school with my friends, we used to pass the peach orchard.

After the night self-study, we came to the boarding house at about 12 as usual. One of my friends gave us an idea to make a raid on peaches. We showed our consent by nodding to each other. Our secret plan started soon. The deployment party and watch-party finished their plans at down 2 o'clock without making troubles.

We ate the peaches that we had got in the raid, with bated breath in my boarding house. Next morning, we passed the peach orchard as usual, where we carried out our plan. The owner of the orchard was picking in the rain. We were passing there with fear of being found out. We screened our faces with our umbrellas.

At the very moment, there came an emergency. Suddenly, the owner who was picking peaches shouted at us, "Boys!" When I heard it, it came across my mind that we should pay in full and should be disciplined at my school in case of making a raid. Everything was going black.

With calm attitude, we saw him quietly. We couldn't see his face directly. He said, "Come on, boys!" We were all nervous at the very tensional moment. When we approach him, his remark surprised us.

Its so hard to study, isnt it? Take those peaches that Ive just picked. Have some."

Since I experienced the episode, I have never stolen anything.

Look, the owner of the peach orchard. Please forgive what I did to your orchard. I would never forget your peaches that had taught me a lesson through all my life.
