Let speech be short, sausage be long

It was at the height of the second World War.
A priest was giving a speech to the children in a town of Germany.
The speech covered that Germany must not choose a Nazi.
If the secret police of Nazi found this, he may die.
But he was so calm, but otherwise the children was impertinent to his speech or was shaking off sleepiness.

The children was only interested in the relief bread provided by the priest.
But he found a child sitting upright and listened to his speech.
He appointed the child and asked.
¡°Boy, do you understand what I mean?¡±
¡°Yes, you mean that we must accept nationalism instead of Nazism to unite Europe, don¡¯t¡¯ you?¡±

He was surprised at the child¡¯s answer inappropriate to his age.

¡°What do you want to be in the future?¡±
¡°I have just had a dream of unification of Europe.¡±
¡°What¡¯s your name?¡±
¡°I¡¯m Helmut Kohl.¡±
¡°Let me teach a political skill, you must not forget it. Let the speech be short, let the sausage be long.¡±

Kohl didn¡¯t understand what it means first time.
He did not realize the meaning until he grew old.

¡°It means that the leader must carry his promise in practice, only not to give a tedious speech.¡±

Kohl became the prime minister of Germany later and contributed to unite Germany.
