Learning objective: Kinds of search engines and operators

There are innumerable homepages on the Internet. It is never easy to pinpoint the information you need among this sea of homepages. If you are normal PC communication user, I am sure you have experienced typing words in search blank to look for the data you needed. Search engine helps user make a quick easy search for the data on the Internet by turning up relevant homepages.

But, only typing keywords (words you want to find) into search engine is not an optimum way to locate quickly required information, you need to practice more in operator-based search and other forms of search. In conclusion, this field of knowledge should be well mastered by those who want to acquire a license for certified information searcher.

Yahoo is the most frequently visited search engine. Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com), as an English search engine, is most widely used by people all over the world. Korean version of Yahoo is http://kr.yahoo.com, which classifies sub-categories in a systematic arrangement.
If you want to search for domestic general construction companies, it is far more recommendable to go right into classified categories, in an order of Business and Economy/Company/Construction/general construction, than to write general construction in keyword blank.

Although other search engines follow the same classification format, Yahoo especially is counted as the most typical search engine. Push the button below to get yourself familiar with Yahoo Korea, browsing through Help menu set in Yahoo Korean search engine.
